Double Bass Under-rated?

I submit that Nat Adderley doesn't get enough credit for his fine playing. I think he's respected, but commonly more associated with his compositions and associations. I was listening to the CA Sextet "Dizzy's Business" this morning and he was throwing down some amazingly clean lines.

Actually the whole band was killing on that session.

Feel free to argue for or against my assertion.

I agree. My first true foray into jazz was getting about 20 or so Cannonball CD's from a friend. After hearing Nat so much, I was amazed at how much I hear him in modern trumpeters. Everyone that played with and around Cannonball deserves more credit. I think my favorite rythmn (can't spell today, sorry) section of all time would be Bobby Timmons, Sam Jones and Louis Hayes. They swing so stinkin' hard. Just my two cents.

It may just be the period, he's overlapping Lee Morgan, Freddie, Woody etc....

I have a fondness for Sonny Clark, Butch Warren and Billy Higgins too, though.
