Terry Jackson from Thomas Dolby. He died in the early 90's while Dolby was making the Astronauts and Heretics album. Wonderful player.

Nick Seymour from Crowded House. He's a huge influence on my playing.

The other huge influence is Mike Rutherford from Genesis. I've stolen more than a few licks from MR's extensive body of work.

Agreed ! He was on "Aliens Ate My Buick" and played some great lines. I love "Airhead."

He was also in Reba McIntire's band and tragically died when their jet went down in 1991.

Tom Hamilton from aerosmith. That dude is a freaking monster. Great tone, great playing, and a good attitude. One of my top five favorite players. Unfortunately all anyone ever cares about in aerosmith is Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. What a damn shame.

Yep. Listen to the lines Hamilton was laying down on the "Rocks" and "Toys in the Attic" albums in the 70s. Kind of amazing that he wasn't getting his due back then.

I have never liked his tone. But I do think he is rock music's most over looked bassists. He is one of my favorite players. I've met him several times and he is also a great guy.

I also like Craig MacGregor, Boz Burrell, Dee Murray and Mel Schacher. None of them get the credit they deserve.

I've always thought that there were some bassists who never got their due for putting out the work that they did. I'd say Roger Waters and Roger Glover never got enough talk even though they had some good bass work.

Didn't Gilmour play most of the tasty bass on Pink Floyd recordings?

Really?.....you mean stuff like the money bass line.?... After watching say live in Pompeii where waters seemed very competent I would be amazed if waters let gilmour perform the studio bass recordings ...but I'm open to info on this.

Dee Murray, the 70's bass player for Elton John - great bass lines, very tastefull stuff. Bob Daisley brought a whole new approach to "hair metal" bass playing. I was never a fan of hair metal and arguably the first two Ozzy albums are pre hair metal but Bob Daisley's bass playing on those two albums inspired me to play bass in the first place. Stuart Zender from Jamiroquai was always groung breaking for me, his playing was awesome and he didn't have that "belly button" tone that everyone was using, his interpretation of '70 bass playing is spot on and then some!
