Undisclosed Neck With Issue?

Hypothetical situation, if you were to receive this neck brand new.....what would you make out of this imperfection/flaw/whatever it is?

Other than the marks shown, the neck does also have some machine marks from a sander, but I can overlook those easily, and can fix them myself. The neck is nice, and other than the mark shown, and a slight gouge at the head stock, it is a nice neck.

That would bug me enough to return it. If my neck is going to show that kind of imperfection, it had better be from me having played it for 20 years or so!

I can fix some, fill others. I doubt I could ever make it invisible. I’m definitely not that good.

As for keeping it, I may just ask for a reduction in price. It doesn’t bother me that much.

Found a crack in the fretboard, on the side. It’s very faint, but it’s there. If you look closely, you’ll see a black line from the side dot inlay. That is it. It is directly below the fretboard damage.

None of that would be likely to bother me. When I eventually noticed something like that, I would wonder what I did to my bass.

Despite how that sounds, my instruments are very well cared for, and I rarely add any noticeable dents, dings, or chips.

None of that would be likely to bother me. When I eventually noticed something like that, I would wonder what I did to my bass.

Despite how that sounds, my instruments are very well cared for, and I rarely add any noticeable dents, dings, or chips.

I banged my Gibson on a cymbal on a tiny stage, cut into the fretboard real good. It definitely bothered me for the night, over it the next day. Gouged the bass with my watch at some point, doesn’t bother me at all.

But this? It’s new, so it bothers me a little. Basically, I want to be the one to jack it up.

Exactly. That’s a lot of money to some of us.

Not only that, but I think we as consumers need to stick to our expectations so to keep manufacturers producing quality goods.

That's a defective neck. For $250, you better believe I'd be getting a new one!

Yikes, $250? I retract my previous comment, return it. I thought this was one of those Chinese cheapies. When the neck costs $40, you can be more forgiving.

I contacted the seller, they requested some pictures of the area and of the box. They seemed adamant that I return it and apologized for the issue.

Kinda sucks, but at least everything seems to be rolling so far as far as a return goes. Hopefully they get it, use common sense, send a new one out. It’s a beautiful neck otherwise so I’ll take another one....without the cracks, tool marks, etc.
