Hello all. I’m 51 and in beautiful NE. Been playing bass for about 25 years and played out with the same original band for about twelve. We had some decent success with plenty of war stories, recorded three albums, played in front of 20k+ audiences and rubbed shoulders with some truly exceptional artists. We were a rock/ blues, guitar slinger project packing houses...but the grind took its toll.
I am a huge G&L fan and primarily used GK heads/cabs but did eventually switch to an Aguilar tone hammer/Neo setup which I loved. Sansamp DI for the absolute win at gigs and in studio. Financial concerns eliminated the possibility of keeping my gear without playing gigs so I whittled down to my favorite bass a white/white 25th anniversary G&L that ended up being crushed by a falling bookcase. (I like to think that it sacrificed itself to protect my cat or something.) Let’s just say I stopped playing for awhile.
I have finally had the creative fire rekindled. Going far deeper into my roots and influences, I fell in love with Hofner and purchased a 500/1 Contemporary violin bass black/white sparkle. I’m not sure I’ve loved a bass more...it’s fit, tone, ergonomics, playability and history just merge and feel alive under my fingers. I fully realize the somewhat narrow lanes that Hofner drives in...but there’s plenty of room for me! I’m breaking down the terrible habits I had before, zooming in on the basics again and having more fun than ever. I’m just playing through a Fender rumble right now...but soon I’ll be looking for suggestions for practice amp upgrades.
This is the second time I’ve found Talk Bass and it’s just as amazing today as it was years ago. Pretty sure I’m here for the duration this time.
