Double Bass Up/Down bow notation question

I have an instructor-he is in Europe until August.

I just got my copy of Rabbath 1 in the mail a week or two ago and as I started working through it I realized that I don't really understand what is being called for with the up/down bow notation.

On exercise 7 below I know to begin with a down bow...is it assumed that you will alternate between up and down bow with each note after that unless otherwise noted? I have been alternating or following the pattern outlined in the first few measures so far but the up bow notation on the slur in the middle of the second measure (still exercise 7) caused me to second guess myself

You are correct about the alternation of up and down bows.

Notes 2 and 3 of the second measure are done with an up bow. Then note 4 is down, and the next measure starts with another up bow, as indicated.
