(updated) SPB-1 VS Lollar Overwound Sound clips

Details if you care to know:

Just played the same thing before and after pickup swap (as good as I could in one take.)
Adjusted the pickups to the same height (1/8" from poles when pressed at last fret)

Classic 50's P (250k pots, tone wide open) > Apollo Twin D.I.
Tickled the needle with an LA2A to help match volume.

Yeah. The SPB-1 is my go-to P bass pickup, and I have expectations for what I think an overwound pickup should sound like. It would be interesting to see if my ears match up with what my brain thinks it knows.

I think a regular and overwound spb1 comparison would tell you more about overwinding.

Both sound good.
I think I like the tighter lows of the SPB-1.

Both sound good recorded. I think I would prefer the Lollar for live playing due to what I hear as a little more going on in the mids. I've played the SPB-1 in a band setting and had a little trouble hearing pitch and articulation.

I heard what I like about the SPB-1. It gets a little "thuddy" in the lows - not what I would call "warm and open," it has a woody sound to it. At least that's how I describe it. The Lollar sounds great though. It is a good bit more open on the low end.

I think the Lollar can probably do a good SPB-1 impersonation, but not the other way around.

They both sound good, although the Lollar has a little more bass response than the Duncan.
Either choice would be a good pickup.

Just tried out a Lollar overwound precision pickup. Wow!!! That pickup has balls!!!
