Is your friends bass the same as yours, body wood, bridge, pickup height, strings, action? I was always a P bass or PJ bass guy forever, but unlike many of the previous posts I find the Jazz tone cuts better live or for recording for my playing style, which is usually some quirky version of rock to prog to punk etc. . I have had those Dimarzio pickups in a jazz bass before & they are very full sounding but not single coil so they dont have the same punch or cut through the mix of standard single coil pickups. I found the jazz works best for me with both pickup nobs full up, I adjust the rear pickup higher than the neck pickup height for better cut with my fingers, I prefer not to use a pick & this gets me the growl & mids I like. I had the audere in an sx bass & I liked it enough, I dont think it will be the answer however, it will give you some different tone options on the bass, but probably nothing you couldnt approximate with your amps preamp settings.
