I recently bought an Ibanez SR506 so I could spend a bit of time with a 6 string. I tried it first and really like the neck, the body has a few marks and scratches but it was cheap enough and I wanted a project bass as well. I really do like the way the neck plays on it.
The main problem now I've played it more through my own gear and with the band is the sound. I know this isn't news, but those Bartolini MK1s and that preamp they used aren't cutting it.
So, if this was yours and you liked it apart from the sound, would you bother with a pickup and pre-amp upgrade, or just get rid and put the money to something used that already has better electronics? I'm happy fitting everything and will have it in bits anyway to refinish the body in something better than that brown waxy stuff that SR506s have on them.
