Upgrade Sir Marcus Miller V7 4 strings bass

Hi,
I have a Sir Marcus Miller V7 4 string bass.
Is it possible to modify it by changing the microphones and the preamp? I would like to get closer to a sound like Tal Winkerfield (the Jeff Beck period)...
What types of microphones and preamps do you recommend to get closer to this sound? the final goal is also to obtain a bass with better components...I don't really know what the original pickups and preamp are worth on this model.
Thank you all for help 😉

original pre and pickups are pretty fine. I've watched some youtube videos, and, well, her active jazz bass sounds like an active jazz bass, a piece, you already have. now it's time to learn to play like Tal.

a part of the sound, I've heard, were EBS amps and cabs. those proline 410s do have a voice that a different bass won't give you. maybe, it's the piece, you're missing.

I put a Sadowsky pre-amp (with VTC) in a Sire MM and it's a whole new bass. Much easier to get a good sound. Pickups seem fine IMO. I never liked the Sire pre-amp; it's over complicated and never seemed to be "dialed-in" how I wanted.

Thank you very much for your feedback.
Is your bass a 4 string?
Do you have the reference for the Sadowsky preamp that you installed on your bass?
Thanks !

It's a 4 yes. You can get them new on Sweetwater, new and used on Reverb. Make sure it's the VTC pre-amp. I happened to get a used NYC version (non-solder screw-down block for pickup wires which was nice) on TalkBass. It will take a little thought and coaxing but it fit into the Sire routing. The shape of the plate is a touch different than the Sire plate, but I have no pickguard on so it didn't matter. It sounds great.

Ok, thank you very much.

For what it is worth, I BELIEVE Tal is also playing on Nickel strings (Nickel Sadowsky strings) which would contribute to her sound as well. I absolutely love her tone and playing...one of my favs is her playing on the Herbie Hancock project where John Legend and Pink sing Don't Give Up. The tone is awesome and the lines are tasty.
