Howdy there TalkBass'ers.
I have recently decided that my Kramer Focus 7000 that I purchased off of eBay for $192.00 (steal in my opinion!) 1 year ago is DEFINITELY due for an upgrade on a few things. The bass is from '86 (most likely) and it appears that everything on the thing is still totally stock from the factory where it was made, which is remarkable that nothing had been replaced up until this point. I love this bass for the cool pickup configuration it has, with a Precision Pickup in the neck and the Jazz-Humbucker in the bridge that can be split to just one single coil. You can have a P, J, P/J, or P/JH setup as you're playing and it gives you huge range of tonal control of your bass, which I love.
However, I think the Precision pup is definitely due for an upgrade. I think it's pretty weak in comparison to the Jazz pickups and it could definitely use a new pup. I was thinking of going for the DiMarzio DP127 to replace it, as everyone says it's great and has a generally high output, which is what I'm looking for tonally.
Also, I think if I'm going to change the neck pickup, I might as well change all of them right? I don't know what Jazz pickups to get for the Humbucker style that the bass requires though. Should I get a neck and bridge combo for the Jazz pickups? Or buy the same pickup twice so they are the same?
Basically, I want some opinions, experiences with pickups I've mentioned, and what you people would do for this bass.
