Upgrading the Avatar tweeter / Adding a "tweeter box"

Ok, here's the deal.

I've been using the Shuttle6.0 + Avatar 2X10Neo + Aguilar GS 112 and it works just fine.

Almost.

I would like to have more hiss... I mean better hi-mid / treble response.

The Aguilar is doing a good job with that, but when pushed hard I do get some tweeter distortion I can do without.

I've got used to the hi-fi sound of the Bose L1, and I'm trying to achieve that crispiness on my setup...

Maybe a BFM style Piezo array would do the trick?

I've never heard the words Hi-Fi and Piezo used in the same sentence.

Not to say someone will never devolop a good piezo transducer someday, they are all pretty mediocre, and cheaply made currently. Even the CTS/Motorola ones.

Someone's never seen BF's designs. They scream Hi-Fi, and use piezo tweeters.

Yeah. His tweeter arrays work good from what I've heard. Make sure you cut around and glue them together, the closer the better. There's actually a thread on his forums that have someone explaining how to cut it up, and how to glue them up.

BUT, I'm not to sure how they would do for your current setup. Would you put them in a box and put the box on top your avatar? Or somehow attach it to the front?

For starters, I'll just put them in a box, on top of my avatar - as close as I can to ear level.

Would I be the first to do so? Am I the only one who misses some hi frequencies?

The Avatar tweeter is limited by the crossover used. Significant improvement can be gained by dropping the crossover frequency and increasing the high-pass section to 4th order. It's been done, do a search.

I've seen them, they are an interesting inexpensive compromise as all things audio. High output high frequency and high out put low bass are almost always full of compromises.

I'm sure they create an interesting High frequency moir patterns. Lots of Lobes and nulls up close.

I don't think phase coherency is a strong point. I think its more of a brute force diffused field approach.

Hi-Futility audio is voodoo magic anyhow.

Would the same hold true for the Aguilar crossover or does it need another tweeter?

I've had 4 Aguilar cabs and all but one sounded crappy in the tweeter region.
