...really means "Left in / around mailbox". Why does UPS tolerate / encourage their drivers to lie about where packages were left? Well, it's illegal for them to stick it in the mailbox, so "Met Customer" (when they didn't) is the euphemism they apparently use. I'd've been upset if this envelope yesterday had gotten lost ($100000 check from my 401K for funding the final stages of my house renovation). But I had it happen a few weeks ago too, and that time it was hiding in the mailbox newspaper tube (which I've never used so never check).

Your 401(k) company mailed you a check? Who does that anymore? I would have requested an electronic deposit or at the very least had a signature required for delivery. That's a lot of money to potentially lose.
Yeah, made me exceptionally nervous, too. There was an electronic transfer option, strangely both slower and far more expensive (even though it's saving them money). I get irrational when dealing with companies that want to charge me extra "for the convenience" of something that's saving them money to begin with.

This is with Fidelity, FWIW, not some small operation that doesn't know what they're doing...

Wow, they handle my finances as well. Good information to know.

Came home recently and found a FedEx package on my front porch. I googled the address thinking if it was in the general area I’d just run it over. It was more than 50 miles away. I called FedEx customer service and told them they needed to come get their package and gave them the info they asked for. It took them three days to get back and get it. I think the only reason they did was my twice daily calls reminding them it had not yet been picked back up.

I renewed my British passport recently [I live in the USA], and I received some very stiff warnings about being around to sign for it from DHL when delivered.
DHL simply left it by the front door.
The whole process of ordering it was an absolute nightmare, and extremely stressful, and I can't imagine the furor it would have caused had it been stolen from my doorstep.

Yeah the porch pirates are getting really brazen around here lately, though luckily for me, they seem to stick to the "in town" or development / subdivision areas where porches are plenty and packed in close. My losses have been more to driver incompetence than theft.

The first time I moved up a dirt road UPS would not come up there. The best they would do is drop stuff off where the pavement ended. FedEx OTOH had no problem coming to my front door once they found it the first time. They would call to schedule a delivery and I'd be there, or I would call for a pickup, and they would be there. No worries about pirates, but there are plenty of differences in efficiency with the task at hand. I'm hoping the recent package three days in limbo thing was an exception rather than SOP. FedEx contracts all their deliveries in my neck of the woods so that could also be a factor.

I've gotten the full range of met customer to couldn't get there, couldn't find it, or just gave up. To be fair, it isn't the easiest house to find, and I much prefer people to leave things at a gate, but for the odd item that requires a signature I don't mind. As a matter of policy, anyone that comments on my cacti can leave with a potted juvenile. DHL, Amazon, and FedEx are on the list. UPS is conspicuously absent, now that I think about it.
