I believe D necks are more common. Upton's are 41.5" or 42" standard. The difference b/w 1/2 (41.5 or 42) isn't that much and you easily get used to it.

On my upright I used a China white pencil to mark the side of the ebony fingerboard while getting used to the scale. The marks just wipe off when you're done using them.
My next door neighbor's upright bass has some nice flame on the neck which serve as natural guides, which help since his is a different scale.
Admittedly, I covet my neighbor's bass!

Upton doesn't do busetto corners, do they?
I'm just curious--I've never actually played a busetto-shaped bass, but I've heard a few of them being played and the sound I get from them is like putting your head inside the bass I play now.
Also, an even stranger question: Are there luthiers who do Link Removed holes?

It was way better than mine, but I really loved the sound of it. It was an enormous bass as well--just abnormally huge in the bottom, even for being a busetto.
It looked a lot like this Pollman, but wider.

Super nice! I've had my Upton standard ply for almost two years now (wow) and I'm still loving every minute of it. Enjoy!
After touring the shop and meeting the people there and seeing just how much they believed in their product, it was a no-brainer request. I do some woodworking as well (more experience there than bass playing!), so these sigs mean a lot to me (even if I can't read everybody's!). - j

man all this Upton talk has me wanting to order my dream 5/8" Hybird with a 41.5 scale length that has a set of Clef all plain guts on it!!

Man you have great taste. That is exactly what I'm hoping to order when I have the funds for a new bass. I have one of the older Euro Uptons and the neck and string length is perfect for me (41.5) but the body is huge. I think that's why my bass is such a cannon though.
