Double Bass Upton stand modfication?

I currently have an Upton stand which works great except for one thing, having to retract the endpin to place it in the stand is a huge PITA. My practice room is small with no available corners and barely enough floor space to lay it down. I’m thinking of building a box to place the Upton stand on, so that I can store it on the stand with the endpin extended, an extra 12 inches. I was thinking it would need a lip around the top edge to keep the Upton stand secure. I have enough ceiling height to do this. Is this a good idea, or is there something I’m not considering?

If you can build a box to put the stand on, I'm pretty sure you can just build a better stand.
