USA Olympic Team

Bet they got a good price for them.

Why is it wrong for athletes to wear clothes made in China, when everyone protesting this is wearing clothes made in China, and expressing their outrage on computers made in China, after seeing the news stories on televisions made in China.

Why the outrage now? Thousands of jobs have been shipped to China for the alleged betterment of the USA and now there is outrage?

Canada imported USD13 billion of goods in the month of April alone. It has to be 10 times that in the USA.

In a very weird uncomfortable way, the uniforms are extremely accurate in portraying the USA today and what it supports.

I fully understand and support the outrage. It would not be much different that waving an American flag made in China. But, the reality of US life, as chosen by American citizens, is the support for Chinese made products over American made.

Well spoken. As a US citizen, I can safely say, we are exactly where we are because of our demand for the absolute lowest prices on everything.

I saw this and posted something on facebook about it, but simply put, it's because we're sending them there to represent our country, and they should be wearing clothes made in the USA, by American workers. The United States is sending 530 athletes to the games. That number, and the prestige associated with being selected to manufacture the Opening Ceremony uniforms would be a HUGE boon to perhaps a smaller clothing manufacturer here in the States that would employ American workers to create the uniforms. Instead, they order the uniforms from Ralph Lauren, and they're manufactured in China.

We do enough business with China, I'd think our own Olympic committee could afford to keep some dollars in our economy.

Once the games are over, will you still care? Yes, it could have been handled better but what does it really matter?

I agree it could have done some good somewhere. On the other hand I can see a company say "Sure we can do that,....for $30,000 per uniform." Gotta gouge while the gougin's good, ya know?

I doubt it. Think about this potential press release:
"The USOC will be selecting an American clothing manufacturer with a factory in the States to design and manufacture our uniforms. There is a 2 week submission period where you must submit a drawing of a Men's and Women's uniform, with pricing and a timeline. At the end of the 2 weeks, we will select our winner."

As a small business owner/independent designer, you'd flip your gourd if you saw that press release would you not? You'd try to come in with the best design you possibly could, at the lowest price, with the highest quality materials, because you know for one that it will be a large order, and you know that the prestige of designing those uniforms has the potential to bring in millions of dollars in sales, or thousands hits to your website, or phone calls, etc.

Put the cynicism about capitalism away, and actually think like a businessman for a second.
