Used Peavey T40 Prices doubled?

I'll be honest, I've been wanting one of these basses for myself for a while. Normally they run from $200-$400 on CL and Ebay. I notice the prices have doubled in a matter of a few months. They were well made instruments, but why the sudden spike on T40 pricing?

More collectible?
Good product just now noticed?
North Korea threats?

I've seen American Peavey prices generally go up. Probably all off the positive reviews on this forum

I had a T40 and only got rid of it because of it's weight. Bought it for $100 and sold it for $300. Presently own a Fury which I can't imagine getting rid of.

Anyone asking $600-800 is nuts and they won't sell at that.

Check eBay's "completed listings" to see what T40's have actually SOLD for... not what sellers are ASKING. The average selling price seems to be just under $400.

They should do reissue the T40 andmaybe the T20 as well.

Then again, isn't this the same company that has canned the Cirrus line? I am sure there is/was a business reason for it, but still questionable in my mind.

I imagine that for every one of us that would like Peavey to sell something special there are 10 people who need a bass for their school/church/kid and pick by color and price.

I honestly thought they would've gone up more by now...seriously cool bass...shed 3lbs and it would be a much more talked about instrument...I'm thinking of having a lighter replacement body made for mine...Love my T-40

I saw some pics a few years ago where someone sliced the back of the body off a t40 then routed the inside to remove weight then glued the back on and finished it off. I tried to find it but no luck. I tought it was on Chip Todd's site?

What people are selling them for and what they sell for are two differant things. Plus it's hard to judge just using eBay because there is so much shill bidding.

I've seen a few sell for $600+ and I'm sure the shipping added on at least another $40-$70. Perhaps what a few uninformed buyers do doesn't mean much. But certainly the asking price has jumped as of late.

Do you really think that people don't have buddies bidding stuff up on eBay? Or even have multiple accounts. There used to be a tracking tool to see home many times people have bid on someones items, but ebay did away with it when the peopel who ise it as a marketing tool complained. Ebay used to be a great resource but It's one I the reasons I won't buy anything off there.
Go on there now and you will see yahoo's selling the les Paul osb for 2500.00 yet they still have them at zzounds etc for as low as 1100.00

a Black and tan T-40 was my first new bass...bought new in '82. had to chose between that and a MM (model escapes me now)...anyways...bought the T-40 because it was about $50 to $75 cheaper at the time.

well...MMs went UP in value and the T-40 stabilized....I sold it for about what I paid for it (around $300)...loved the sound...

called it "the tank"...

PS - regarding OP...doubt they are worth $500+ now...

I'll sell you mine but its missing a knob or two and one of the little switches broke (kids).
I also seem to remember having it rewired at one time.

We all know they're worth way more than they go for. That said, we all know they go for way less than they're worth, which keeps the prices low. I've seen asking prices go up on some of the more rare colors, but I don't know if they sell or not.

It is harder to get away with this stuff these days. But it definitely happens often.

Bidder IDs are cloaked but you can still ID shill bidders if you have good eyes and understanding of bidding techniques.
