using FX out channel as an interface for recording to a laptop

Hey,

After spending a few days getting to grips with Garageband I'm going to start recording on to my laptop now.

My bass has passive pickups, so I was wondering if I plug into my amp (Fender Bassman 100) can I run the output from the FX Out channel into my laptop's (using a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter) line in? I don't have the cash to afford any sort of interface at the moment.

I haven't had a chance to try the above out yet as my amp is over in the studio at the minute but I thought i'd ask here first!

I'd appreciate any advice!

Hey,

I got the 1/4 -> 1/8 adapter and I got my amp back but recording on my laptop is not going well.

I went into System Preferences, selected Line In and chose Channel 1 (Mono), but when I turn on the monitor in Garageband it seems to use the built-in microphone to pick up sounds :(

It took me awhile to work out what the clicking noise i was hearing...me typing!

Help! (please!)
