FOH magazine always features excellent technical articles by Phil Graham. The June 2013 and July 2013 issues contain a very good two-part series on operating with generators and portable power systems.

Edit: I just noticed that it is to be a three-part series. The third part will be out next month and will deal with proposed NEC revisions coming into effect in the beginning of 2014. I'll post the URL when it appears. Until then, there's still a lot of good reading.

Thanks Bob for posting the links.

Since the topic comes up at least twice a year, and offers poor fictional reading among the scarse relevant information, a dedicated sticky like this thread could be appropriate?

Then again, who the hell reads the stickies .

These articles are exactly why I don't do outdoor shows with my own equipment, lol. I'll play rented backline on someone else's dime only. This stuff is so far over my head it's kinda funny.
