Using MIDI into an AMP

This is more Guitar than Bass related but it applies the same way.
In my software I have guitar VSTs and can get a pretty good sound using MIDI, but nothing like running it back through an AMP.
So my goal would be

Computer -> DAW Aux out -> pedalboard -> Amp -> Microphone -> back into DAW.

This all works great, except no matter what I do I get "noise" or static from the AUX. I have tried other output channels (It's a TASCAM Model 24) and there is definitely static generated when I get to Amp or Pedalboard but not if I take that AUX into a powered speaker.

Is there anything anybody has done to alleviate this?

Are you feeding a line level signal into an instrument level input? Are you adjusting the output level of the Tascam interface digitally?

Yes, probably. Is there a way around that? The Aux Out is probably Line Level. Is there a pedal or something that would handle that. The volume on the aux out is really low, but that probably doesn't make a diference.

Yes, you need something between the aux out and the pedalboard to reduce the level appropriately. You may also have a ground loop issue. That doesn’t always mean just hum but sometimes digital noise. Lookup “reamp box.” For example, something like the Walrus Audio Canvas: Re-Amp.

Do you have a passive volume pedal or anything similar?

The volume on the aux out is really low, but that probably doesn't make a diference.
