using two different brand pickups?

wondering if any one uses two different brands of pickups in the same bass. some of the problems seem pretty obvious as far as how they might blend level wise and such. but i'm interested in knowing more about it from anyone who has tried it out.

I've used a Mighty Mite MM and a Fender '62 P Bass pickup together... other than the type (and style) the two pickups mixed well together. Vol, Blend, Tone passive.

It did take some pup height adjustment to get them balanced... but again pup type.

I do it all of the time ... it is trial and error ... sometimes a hot overwound can be tempered by a smoother underwound pickup.

I haven't, but it shouldn't be a problem at all, provided the pickups are a good sonic match. Fender itself sells both basses and guitars with mixed brands. The Duff McKagen signature bass has a Seymour Duncan bridge pickup, for example. On the guitar side, the Vintage Hot Rod '57 Strat has a DiMarzio dual rail humbucker at the bridge, and Fender SCN pickups neck and middle. The Lone Star Strat comes stock with a Seymour Duncan bridge humbucker, and Fender Texas Special singles neck and middle.

A long time ago, I had a Fender Jazz Special, one of the MIJ models that had a P body and a PJ pickup configuration. I bought it from Heart of Texas Music in Austin and later found that Guitar Resurrection had previously put an EMG P and a Seymour Duncan J in it. They claimed not to like the result, but it sounded fine to me.

i have a precision deluxe i would like to put a delano for the p
and nordstrand fat stack maybe at the bridge. maybe a delano mm style pickup just not sure about routing my bass

I have basses with mixed pickups. I also mix alnicos and ceramics. so I can get my own bass sound.

i have a mja deluxe p with the bridge hb i would like to do the same with. what mm or hb could get closest to a stingray?

I did it and wouldnt do it again. Always one of the pups is hotter. After balance with pup unusual heights the result is nothing new.
