"Van Halen Clause"

Hi,

Interesting....

Van Halen Contract Required No Brown M&Ms?

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Good one Cliff! A little research....and bingo! I had heard of this story, but had always assumed the wrong thing - that they did it to exercise their power, etc. But, I never bothered to research. Makes sense - miss a detail like no brown M&Ms - and they might just miss an important production / equipment detail. That would be easier these days to get M&Ms with no brown ones - you can custom order online now in whatever color etc. Back then....no.

Never bought the line about 'making sure the contract is read...'

I mean, wouldn't it be better to make sure the important stuff is taken care of rather than see if the candy was handled right, and then, presumably, assume the rest fell in place?

Especially given how DLR claims they'd find potentially fatal errors - not just show ruining errors, but actual deadly errors - only after discovering candy color was wrong? C'mon Dave, give me a break.

And, since it was so deadly serious, how often did they enact the clause: "upon pain of forfeiture of the show, with full compensation...."

One break, coming up!
