Double Bass Van Zalinge Z Bass

Hi Everyone
I've been visiting a fair bit, but I'm a relative newbie here.
I thought that I'd post some images of my Van Zalinge Z bass (originally purchased as an ex demo model from the BUCA bv showroom in Bussum in 1986).
It's one of the production models (rather than one of the dozen or so instruments hand crafted by Henk Van Zalinge), but lovely quality.
It's fairly basic - simple jack socket, plug and play with a Z transducer (Polytone type).
Still my darling after all these years - wouldn't consider selling her.
Does anybody else on the Forum have one to share?

Great!!!

Thanks for sharing them!

I'm sure there's some TBers who have Z basses too...

Although I'm not an Upright Bass player, but This is the EUB that always on my mind since first time I saw Sting play it with The Police.

Thanks :)

I used to have a Van Zalinge about 10 years ago. Bought it from the old Bass Centre when it was still in Wapping. Loved that bass and used it occasionally for a couple of years but eventually had to sell it to raise funds for my main acoustic bass (which I still play today).
They are great instruments and I wish i could've kept hold of mine! Was sold by Martin at The Gallery in Camden to a friend of his who'd been looking for one. It's the only instrument I've regretted selling...

You're welcome.
Must be more around, of 264 made Sting has/had two, Stewart Copeland has one, Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen has one, Henk Bosch van Drakestein another...
Anybody else?

I do!
I rented a room in Florida one winter 1990 or so. I went to putting my clothes up in the closet and there she was all bagged up. The landlady was a singer who had a bass player boyfriend who left the bass with her for some back debt. Needless to say in a few seconds a deal was struck and I still have her. More worn than yours and slightly different finish/woods and details. Still wonderful to play. Will post pics when I get a chance.

Need some expertize help.

I have a van Zalinge bass that I'm thinking of selling but the problem is to set a decent value of it.

What is your oppinion of the value?

Hi Widolf,

It is a rare collectors item, there were only 264 made of them.

I have put mine on www.marktplaats.nl since today in The Netherlands.

I ask E 3500,- That's the price one was sold for in 2005.

One only needs one buyer , who has passion for this great instrument !

This is what i Found in Germany, this is what they asked.
Wonder if it is being payed for it.

Hi, i used to have one , built by Henk, number 44..in a flightcase, lovely, i toured with it, then sold it unfortunately, because i seldom used it. But then years later i bought one once again but had to sell it ..can i comment on yours..: the strings should rest halfway on the bridge, instead of into it. The slots are to deep it seems. But have a luthier do the sanding..! Also restring it so the wrappings from the E and A string are closer to the leftside and the D and G string closer to the right side of the pegbox.
I wish i still had one..

I’ve got an original early model handmade by Henk. I’m in Amsterdam, NL.
