Vantage VS600B - Anyone got some experience with it?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if some of you have some experience with mentioned bass?

I found this one on Ebay, got it for 40 bucks. As the description already stated, it needed restoration, and so I did have it restored.

Here's what it looks like now:

I kept the whole neck etc. as it was ok.

As you can see, there is a filled out spot underneath the bridge. Originally, there was a gibson-stlye 3-point bridge installed, but it wasn't on it anymore. There was wood putty where the bridge was placed, and they simply screwed a very simple Fender bridge on it.

It was then fixed with a piece of wood, so a new bridge could be installed, I chose a Schaller 3D bridge. I know, that particular spot does not look that pretty, but I'm really happy it had been fixed at all.

I chose Seymour Duncan PB4 P-Bass pickups, and man, they sure deliver a really big sound!

The body was grinded and then a new paint was applied, and Isure love the natural look of the wood!

After the bass had been professionally adjusted, I was really happy and thankful to hold this baby in my hands.

It turned out the restoration really was worth it all, and it's now my primary bass.

Who else played this bass, or even still does?

I have no experience with this model myself (just the neck-through VA900s), but they are — depending on who you talk to — fine instruments at a good price, or firewood. I have no plans to ever part with mine, so you can guess which side I'm on.

Looks like an excellent restoration job. If you're happy with it, that's what counts. :)

I have a fretless VS600B that I bought back in 81 - still in perfect condition. Looks mostly like yours, but has all the original hardware and the mahogany was put together in alternating directions that give it a funky look that is hard to see except in direct sunlight. It weighs a ton, but I love the sound (Eberhard Weber comes to mind). Signed by Tony Levin on the back ! !
