Details

Varitone plate for Jazz Bass. Layout is volume (pull for series), 3-way toggle for pickup selection, tone, toggle for Varitone on/off, Varitone rotary selector. This was a solderless plate but one of the stew heads for the pickup leads broke off. Someone with more skill than me could probably extract the screw or the pickup lead could be soldered instead. $80 PayPal shipped to the lower 48.

Who manufactured it? If they're still around, perhaps they could be contacted about getting a replacement screw for the pickup connector.

I can’t remember except for that he was out of San Diego. I’m sure the screw could be purchased as a hardware store. It broke when my tech was removing it to install a control plate that he built for me. At that point I was no longer using it so I never bothered to try fixing it.

I had a very tech/engineering-savvy friend of mine look at the pictures. He said if one didn't have the special tools to remove the screw, they could use a Dremel with a fine-point drill bit to cut a slot across the top, then use a screwdriver to unscrew it.

Is that a Kelling Sound creation by any chance? He does some pretty cool passive wiring harnesses for bass and guitar.

You're most welcome! And that's why he's one of my tech & engineering gurus. If it has something to do with tools, electronics or even cracking vegetable oil into useable biodiesel, he's my go-to guy.

What some might see as ironic is that he's a North Jersey farm boy…that is, until you see firsthand how much DIY mechanical knowhow is needed to keep things running smoothly and efficiently. :bookworm:
