Ventilator Blues

Hey people,

I have been seeking a tab for ventilator blues by the rolling stones but unable to find any sort, so I thought the kind bassists on this forum could help me out.

Thats the best guitar tab I could find, if someone could tell me how you would form a bass riff for that sort of open g tuning riff it would be much help for the future, thanks!

I've had a stab at the first 36 bars (about 20 still to go) but have had to knock it on the head for today as it's getting late & the neighbours have a right to a bit of peace & quiet.

Might be able to get the rest done tomorrow, but I'm not promising - busy weekend ahead etc. - so it might be this time next week.

Do yourself a favour, & get started with it in its simplest bare-bones stripped-down form.

The verses are G1, G2, G2 on beats 1, 2 & 3. Let beat 3 ring so's it covers beat 4:

For the chorus bit, just stick to the root notes and follow the changes: G, Bb, F, C:

E-3-3-----1-1----

There's a second section that goes G1, G2, C1, C1, F2, F2, C1, C1, C2-Bb2:

D---5-----3-3------------
A-----3-3-----3-3--------
E-3----------------------

Those three sections are basically the meat & potatoes. Wyman throws in a bunch of little slides, fills & turnarounds here 'n' there as seasoning, but don't worry about them to begin with - just get the structure in place in your head (and fingers) for now.

What format is best for you? Guitar Pro 5, Tux or a printable PDF?

Usual caveats… It's not a perfect note-for-note transcription as my scoring abilities aren't up to that, but it's close enough to get the job done provided you use it in conjunction with your ears & the original track.

I'll say this one more time though… get your head around the Minor Pentatonic scale. It's the foundation of Blues music (& by association, Rock). When you've got that one in your fingers all sorts of doors will open once you've figured out the key.
