Verifying a MIJ J bass by serial

According to the Fender Japan serial number site I checked out, this serial corresponds with a bass built in the 80s with a Made in Japan label.

The labels don't add up. Any ideas?

I've never found the serial number sites for MIJ Fenders to be useful, I see numbers all the time that don't match that are guitars I've brought in from Japan that I know to be authenticate. I sold an Aerodyne recently and the buyer was claiming he thought it wasn't fake,and I bought that bass brand new.

I've heard tell that Japanese factories would not throw out serial numbers when a new year's run started, but instead, they'd use up all that was available, then switch to the next letter. Thus, the vague span of two or three years between letter-designations. (e.g.: Knowing when a particular model became available helps. I only know "Q" designation Aerodynes are from their first run of models since it wasn't available to the public until after Winter NAMM in early 2004.)

What model and/or year is that neck supposed to be from?

Japanese Fender serial numbers are perfectly useless for aging an instrument.

I have a CIJ Fender with a serial number which suggests 1986. It was purchased brand new in 1997
