Vibrating racks

Hi,

What is the best way to dampen the vibrations produced by your cab when your amp is on top of it? First I was interested in a shock-mount rack but IMO they are too expensive. There must be a more affordable way. I was thinking about using a foam or something like that. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

KN

This is the aged old problem.. Maybe you need to put the Guitard's Marshall head on your cab and put your head on his cabs? That way you still look amplified and you shake apart his head.

I was just playing one amp and one cab from my large roll on the floor multi-amp 20U rack and I had a screwdriver and some screws sitting on the top of the rack. The screws were boucing a half inch off the top of the rack and it wasn't even sitting atop the speaker.

What this tells me is there is no way to neutralize the vibrations from the bass anywhere. No efforts are worthy and time could be spent doing something else. May I recommend chasing groupies? BOB

Seriously, and I mean this with the most intense and utmost seriousness. Pillows wont do it, foam wont do it, shock mount cabs do not have enough shock mount ability to do it.

What you need is 4 very large silicone breast implants. You place one in each corner of the top of the cab and gently set the head down on top. I guaranty it will be the happiest rockola on the planet. I know when I settle down to rest its one of my most favorite positions.

...the only question is... where do you get the breast implants at:hmm:

I use a Auralex Gramma under my speaker cabinet. It does a great job of cleaning up stage sound by isolating the cab from those hollow, poorly built, club stages. It cleans up the sound pretty nicely, wherever I use it. I don't think it will stop vibration between the head and cabinet, used as I use it, but since Auralex was brought up, I thought I'd tell you all that it works nicely.

I'd bet one of the "speakerdudes" would work pretty well for isolating the rack from the cabinet.

Been there, done that ... didn't like it :D
I prefer the home-grown fruit :p
Seriously, I'll probably get some foam. But most foams I found are for acoustic damping. Does it also dampen the physical vibrating from the cab itself?

One of which is not preventing an amp or rack rig from vibrating when sitting on a bass cab. I have the very similar MoPADs by Auralex. Totally useless for the purpose being discussed. They may work as intended in a studio on a desk underneath monitors. Certainly not for live bass performance. Save your money. Or play at a lower volume. IMO, IME. :)

P.S. I use mine for preventing indentations in the top surface of my cabs. ;)

No wonder you are having phase problems. Trying to get four breasts working together is ALWAYS problematic!!!!! ;)

I have some of those Auralex pads and the work great under studio monitors but doubtful they could endure a heavy rack.

Get a $5-10 camping mat, cut 2 pairs to store inside the rack covers. Massive rattle reduction on the cheap.
