Both the mic and piezo into their own channel of the Genzler each eq optimized, then a post EQ DI from the Genzler straight into the Zoom Q6.

The blend produces a articulate attack, so that enhances the clarity of each note. My personal preference would just be the Xlson alone, with this trio because adding in the KNA DB1 changes the timbre. With a drummer, I can hear the advantage of the blend. Loved that descending arpeggio toward the end of the clip Rick. Very nice indeed.

I kind of ended up with the 'blend' by accident. I started out just using the Xlson but it was incredibly windy and the mic picked up the wind (woosh woosh), so I had to switch over to the piezo.

When the rehearsal was almost over I remembered that I had some 'wind shields' for microphones and ran into the house and grabbed one. Those things actually work!!! So for the last tune, I added the mic back in.

I agree with you about preferring the timbre of the mic by itself, but this does open up some interesting options.

Ric, that's one of the reasons I love to record our performances and even rehearsals. Listening back to it, that's my favorite part of my bass part and I have no idea where it came from.

PS. I can't begin to tell you how very thankful I am that I had the very good fortune to meet and begin working with these two wonderful musicians (and friends). I feel like I am exactly where I want (and need) to be.
