Double Bass Vinegar to remove dried glue from neck/fingerboard?

I've got a fingerboard I need to return to the half-size Framus from which it came. I know all about heat/moisture for removing DB fingerboards (to soften the glue), but the residue from the removal is going to have to be scraped off before I can return the board.

I'm thinking placing a vinegar-soaked rag on the gluey surfaces should soften the glue to a scrapable point? If not, what is the better approach?

I use pickling vinegar (25%) in a syringe bottle to remove fingerboards rather than heat and hot water. Quick and clean! It is also likely effective at softening glue residue. Sponge the surfaces well with hot water afterwards naturally.

I’ve only used vinegar to break down yellow glue. If the board is hide glued to the neck, steam is your best option. A heat blanket or heating pad will also work.

Alcohol also works really well on old hide glue that doesn't want to release. It'll get very brittle.

Thanks for the responses, but I see I did not make myself clear in my OP. The glue is dried, and it is brittle. But I am not returning the original fingerboard to that bass. That 'board already has been removed. That 'board has the dreaded "school bass" dressing, which is to say the tech went crazy planing things down between the nut and position five such that the dip makes comfortable set-up and playability all but impossible. Not the first time I've seen this on one of my basses.

Fortunately, among my stash I have a fingerboard that dimensionally aligns perfectly with the neck of that Framus (it does, however, have the Romberg bevel). That is the 'board I will replace the flawed original with.

De-Glue Goo is concentrated acetic acid (vinegar) in a gel form. I have found it works well to dissolve white and yellow glue.

Tap the board from the side with a rubber hammer. It can’t be harder than extracting a tooth.
