Vintage bass identification, anyone?

I've never seen anything quite like it... Note that the headstock at first glance is pointy like an Alembic, but it actually includes that dark bulb on the end, sort of Fender-ish... It's an odd duck. Jag body? Tele/Jazz sort of control plate? Came from a friend's Facebook page, so I blacked out the faces, but what the heck IS this thing?
