Vintage P Jackpot?

I was 1 year old!!!

You know.....I think that would be FANTASTIC IF I had several extra thousand sitting around.....will be a nice bass for someone....bid is over $3500 and the reserve is not met!

Man - wish I had won the lotto......trouble is - can't win if I don't play!

Nicest "real one" I have seen (or the best fake ever!)

Remember the line in Animal House, when the horse dies and Belushi keeps saying Holy S**t!, over and over again?

Ya, I am saying that too! I was barely 1 when that bass was made and here is one like it was out of a time capsule! I didn't even see any checking of the finish! Was it kept in a temp and humidity controlled air tight vault for lo these 42 years?

WOW!

"If I were a rich man,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum............"
:bassist:

Gruhn gets some nice stuff. Last time I was in his shop he had a 64J, Olympic white with matching headstock that was closet classic condition. I think it went for 17,500! I got to play it, and if I had the money I wouldn't have thought twice about writing the check. You want find any bargins there, but he is definitly one of the authorities on the vintage market.

What's interesting here is that the neck date is March '65 and the pots are dated to the 20th week of '65 which puts them as being made in May. Add a week for shipping, inventory, and distribution of the pots to the factory floor and it seems the earliest this bass was probably made could be June of '65.

I'm actually kind of surprised the neck sat around for more than two months before it was used.

That's not uncommon for parts at Fender to sit around a couple months before they're used.

Jimmy is absolutely right. I have three Fenders and they all vary from 1 to 3 months in date stamps and serial numbers. That is one beautiful bass. It's in my personal favorite look too. Oly White/Tort Guard and Rosewood neck.... delicious! Know wonder two of my three are in the same color scheme. I should sell my chrome red P and buy this one to make it a perfect set. Yeah right! Great looking bass though. Someone is going to pay a pretty penny for a mint classic.

:eek:That's just beautiful. But I'm with Jimmy M, I'd be too paranoid to bring it out, due to potential damage or theft. I suppose if I was wealthy, I wouldn't care.

I refuse to believe it, because I believe that fellow in England (Bravewood?) who makes fender copies tricked people into thinking he had a 61 sonic blue strat, or something like that, but it turns out it was a lie.

It seems weird that you refuse to believe something based on one lie in the past from an unrelated party. Not to say that there aren't dishonest people out there.

It's a gorgeous bass, too expensive for my tastes.
