Update: the string arrived and I put it on today! I think i might've created a monster, she sounds like a fold out couch and is stupidly loud. hopefully they mellow out before some audition stuff I have in late January. The spiro makes the belcantos sound so flat and one dimensional, I've got some flex deluxes so I might swap them in to see if they match more. Thanks everyone

Which strings are you using the Belcantos on? I really like the D and G, but the A and E are too dark for my tastes so I like to use a Spiro A and long E (currently 4/4 medium, but I've used a 4/4 weich A and E and a 3/4 weich A) to add clarity to the low strings. The Belcanto D is a little dark compared to the Belcanto G or Spiro A, not enough for me to feel like it needs to be changed for something else (and when I listen to recordings of myself it's much less noticeable).

I’ve got Belcantos on the top 3 strings. I’m hoping the spiro will mellow and match a little better; I’ve played a 5 string that my uni owns with top 3 belcantos and bottom 2 spiros and they match pretty well, but that bass is overall brighter and projects more especially the A string. I’ve got a set of 3/4 mittel spiros as well probably won’t put them on as they’re a bit tough on the left hand as well as the bow. The long E is already kicking my ass ahaha, this bass has pretty long string length.

I am very tempted to chuck the flex deluxes on to get into the christmas spirit with the candy cane silk colours matching the red spiro
