I bought some automotive vinyl wrap.
I got the 3M Dead Matte Black.

To make it easier to deal with the curves, I did the front and back of the body, but left the sides.
I really like it and it has held up for me.
Occasionally I get a crinkle in the vinyl at the horn, but a hit with the hairdryer makes it right again.

It is a cheap way to try out a new colour!

I was inspired by your post and decided to follow suit. I play in a band thats very “showy”…lotsa lights, colorful clothing. I got this Cort single cut 5, its got a beautiful burl top, but it simply doesn’t go with the bands color palate.

So, I opted to vinyl wrap it in chrome/mirror finish. Here’s the before and after.

Wow! It's hard to see beautiful wood covered up, but it can very easily be returned to that condition for someone who might eventually appreciate it. Imagine some teenager buying this thing in 30 years and posting how they took a wrap off to discover an 'amazing wood pattern that the world needs to see on stage.'

As it is you now have a very unique badass instrument that goes exactly with your band and you're going to be inspired to play with on a more regular basis.

The ghost of your former shop teacher is giving you an A+. You achieved all goals and have encouraged others to follow suit in doing so. Good job.

The cool part about vinyl is you can easily try again with all this great feedback and insight.

Go for it. You clearly have the interest, with just a little more experience you can be showing us all how it's done.

I did a hydro image /dip years ago on a Tobias growler. It was not cheap, and I had to do the clear coat on top of that myself. Cost well over $100. here’s that one….View attachment 5019904

This is essentially repainting the body, which is permanent and would seem requires a lot more skill to end up with an acceptable finish.

That said, wow, it would be nice to be able to do THIS. While the style, which is kinda wood-grainy, isn't my bag to own, I can definitely appreciate them as a piece of art. And I can more appreciate the finish on your work, which appears to be excellent.

I'm still wanting to get the vinyl trick down and see if I can find used underpriced dogs to breathe new life into and increase their market price and appeal.
