I really would suggest getting an SM58, at least to start with. There are a lot of people who like to get away from the standards, to try to get into something different, but the 58 is the best sounding stage dynamic for the most voices I have ever heard. Maybe the sound is ubiquitous because of the numbers sold, but really, who can care? They are well built, great sounding and reasonably priced. When you get to a point to being a discriminating user, then you can certainly use something different. But be aware that most states have 'no return' return policies on vocal mics for hygiene reasons.
