This says that 10db increase is three times as loud doesn't it? I was saying that 6db increase is about twice as loud, not three times as loud. Does that change anything?![]()
This is the first time I've ever seen +6dB described as a doubling of volume. I have 3 or 4 college level texts on acoustics and sound reinforcement and they all quote 10dB as a doubling or halving of perceived volume. It's certainly widely accepted in the sound reinforcement/recording/hifi communities that 10dB represents halving/doubling. This gibes with my own perceptions of volume. Moving a fader from -10 to 0 seems twice as loud to me and certainly not 3x.... Of course, there is room for some subjectivity here because apparent volume can't really be measured.
