Vox MV 50 for bass ?

I’ve played a ton of gigs with a North Coast reproduction of the 2-15 version of that cab, with a vintage Vox AC100 head. It’s a lot louder than you might think. From the experience I had with that rig, it is sufficient for any venue where you’re not running through the PA anyway.

Far from “all” - there are many collections out there much larger than mine but I do me some tuck and roll.

North Coast Music used to build and sell repro’s of the T-60 cab, offering a 2x15 option(although, once again, seriously undersized for the job), as well as making AC-50/100 ‘shells’ to place a modern amp like a GK in(for appearances sake). Lots of Beatle/Brit Invasion tribs used them. They even built sealed SuperBeatle 2x15 cabs, but now have ceased production. I’ll bet there’s some used ones around.

I’ve found a guy with two T60 cabs and he’s paired both with AC100 heads. Seems best option if I can find one. Thanks

Another option to look into is the Vox AD “Valvetronics” series, with the blue diamond grillcloth(as opposed to the UK brown or US black). The classic look heads, at least the AD120VTH, were quite usable…had a wide variety of amp models and on-board effects. I used one for bass(the “Tweed Bassman” setting sounded best)with their matching 4x12 cab with neo’s(about the size of a US Royal Guardsman but a bit taller and deeper)that held up nicely. The head is actually 2x60 watts stereo(as is that matching cab), and has the US trapezoid shape. If the ‘blue’ doesn’t bother you(and switching out the cloth would be a monumental pain in the ass the way it’s constructed), these are found at reasonable used prices. There’s also a 60 watt mono version.

Due respect it’s my money to waste. I’m getting this cab for $100 bucks and I’ve wasted more than that on much less. With another $150 for repair/refurb it will be a great piece of vintage gear. I like and collect vintage gear from my youth, to wit several of my basses - a Vox V250, a Shaftesbury 3263, a Greco/Hofner VB165, a Klira Twen Star and my original Apollo Beatle bass. Oh and this group of vintage Kustom amps. So it’s not a waste of money to me.

I didn’t ask for approval of my buying decision I asked for advice about a possible amp to drive the cabinet so advice in that regard is much appreciated. View attachment 5253659

Thanks. I’ve talked to another bass player who has 2 T60s and he paired them with AC100 heads, also not easy to find.

In my case I used an AC100 head with a reproduction speaker cabinet I had made with Vox tolex and grill cloth. It has (2) Eden 10" speakers in one compartment and a 300 watt EV15. I sold the head with a stand and a original AC100 speaker cabinet I found. To replace it I bought the AC125 head, with another Thomas Organ chrome stand, paired with that custom cabinet.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. Hoping I’ve found a solution from a member that has the North Coast AC110 “shells” with a Vox modeling amp. Awaiting details.

Also have a line on a Vox AD120VTH so if a deal can be made I can move forward.

I'm also a Hofner player (among other basses). Sir Paul also plays through Mesa ( which is what I have now). I get it though .. the Voxes LOOK very very cool.

A Plush 2x15” rig is essentially a Fender Dual Showman in Kustom(esque) clothing(I had one for a while, sounded great). Then the brand name mysteriously changed to “Earth”, and it got weirder when they copied Fender tweed, Sunn, and Peavey cosmetics before folding.
