VT500+Two 210AVs...

I've been thinking about this set up. A Tech 21 VT500 into two 210AVs. I've read a lot of posts about people using PF500s with it, which is the same wattage. Do I have to worry about blowing the speakers, or is the rule still just don't push it too hard?

On that note, my band is two guitarists with 30 watt vox combos, and a fairly loud drummer. Would I run the risk of blowing the speakers in this setting? Clean guitars, clean vocals, nothing TOO crazy, but a punchy pop punk sort of tone. Would this set up be enough? I can imagine it sounding GREAT, but ... trying to hit that perfect blend of portable, loud enough, and safe enough to not blow speakers.

I'm no expert, but I quick look at the specs, Tells me you'll be running too much power to them. The last time I heard them I was running only 100 watts to them. They don't get very loud. If you want to use that head and get good sound but light, Rumble 2x10's and they are close to the same price.

Some things to consider are

The av210 is a mid focused cab and is never going to give you a ton of low end. I think the people that blow a speaker in these cabs ask them to be something they are not. That being said my experience with them(a few backlines over the years) is they do cut through a mix well and give you that nice ampeg 8x10 tone in a smaller box. A vt500 would be fine with those cabinets just boost low mids instead of your lows and listen for the speakers stressing out. You can blow a 1000 watt speaker with a 100 watt amp if you really want to.

As far as band dynamics that is so subjective you will never know until you try. If you are lucky enough to play with musicians who listen to others not just themselves you will be fine. A good band motto is "I can't hear myself so everyone else should turn down" too often people just keep turning up... the fastest way to get people to leave the bar and also never be asked back again.

I've heard two main things about this cab. It doesn't have a lot of low end, and it is a mini fridge. That sounds perfect to me. I don't need big boomy towers, but I love the punch that 810s have. You're absolutely right about the band dynamics, though. I've brought cabs in before that sound amazing on their own... and just completely fizzle out in band settings.

Do you usually use DI / mic support as well, or does that set up seem to work well as is? I've heard such awesome things about the TH500 as well!

We only play smallish rooms, vocals only PA. The TH500/210av setup gives plenty of noise to carry the room. We don't play super loud, but not Cafe Jazz quite

I use a GK MB500 into my 2) SVT 210AV's and have plenty of volume and tone. Just use your ears and you'll be fine. They are great cabs

I've used a PF800 into mine many times, and as long as you don't go over what the cabs can safely take, you're fine. Of course, that involves forgetting numbers and using your ears and common sense, but it can be done by some

I run a PF350 into mine, and that seems like the perfect amount of juice. I can dime the volume on it without issues as long as I'm smart about the input gain.

Just don't try to put all 500watts into them.

Same setup I use. The 210AVs sealed sound works great with the "tubeyness" of the TH 500, IMO.

The 210AVs are pretty tough cabs given their wattage rating. As others have said just use your ears and use the volume knob accordingly.

Agree with what has been said so far about 210AV cabs. Great tone, easier to move, but what I've found lacking is them choking out at higher volume.

This has made me move back to a 1x15 (Altec 421-8H speaker) setup, which has the same punch, but throws the sound further, and plays louder.

On a side note: I found it interesting that after using the Altec for a few gigs now. It makes the 210AV cab sound muffled in comparison. (Altec has tons of mids and gets lower than two 210AV together)

I just started to run this exact rig, but am waiting on a replacement VT500. I have had a single 210AV powered with a Little MArk 2 for a couple years now, used it a lot for rehearsals and small gigs in similarly equipped bands (Fender HRD/OR Rocker 50, and then 2x Vox AC15s, now Fenders Blues Deluxe/Blues Junior, all moderate volume drummers). I would not recommend using a SINGLE 210AV for "real" shows, but the one experience with the stack I had was delightful.

Plus the whole head and dual cab stack weighs less than my EBS 410 alone.

GB Shuttle 9.0 into two 210AV's, that's 900 watts. They do have their limitations, much like any 4x10, but work well for me.

I've started using an FDeck HPF with my Ampeg Micro VR and AV 210 cabs. Attenuating the frequencies below 35-40 Hz does wonders for tone, and lets the amp not have to work so hard.

It really sounds like you need to try these cabinets out in a band situation. Buy it and use the Return Policy if needed. However, I suggest getting something louder regardless. It's always better to have too much and simply turn yourself down than being angry at your rig because it can't go any louder.

They are loud enough for me. If you get them, you will love loading those little cabs.
I suggest you get covers for them though. The tolex is really thin.
