Mates! OMG! He’s listed a Wal! He’s gone bloody mad! Nah, I enjoy experiencing basses and letting others experience them too!

I’m serving up something extra special here! An instrument I’ve been holding onto for almost 5 years...and have actually gigged! Yep, I gigged this bass and it cut like nothing else! Just like most Wals do!

This bad boy came all the way from Hong Kong. Just like today, these basses are in high demand because well with a 30 month lead time and Tool is touring...everybody wants a Wal. Master JC on his MK2 4 string serves up an amazing studio and live experience. He got me hooked and I’m thankful that through the magical powers of talkbass which really is a group of great people with an underlying obsession have helped me experience a few Wals in my time. A couple in particular have been extra helpful too!

I have to give a shout out to the Wal Club on this site because it’s probably one of the most successful clubs on here. Facebook has a great page too called “Wal bass lovers of the working Unite” where people post amazing pictures, stories, and of course Wal basses sell like hot cakes.

Back to my bass, anyone read Geddy Lee’s bass book? He’s got a page dedicated to Wal. He’s got a 1986 very similar to mine except with Chrome hardware. My bass was born in 1988 and it has the latest preamp.
This was the year I first started playing and learning music on the old ivory keys at the age of 7. Bass didn’t start for another 9 years! Polyester is actually an up charge on Wals. Most of them that come available have wood facings. Well mine does too, but they’re under the finish. Polyester is actually an interesting finish because it sits right between Nitrocellulose and Polyurethane. It provides the best of both worlds with the breathability for the wood like nitro and durability like polyurethane. No checking too!
But it does wear really well.

Weight is 11.22 lbs on my Rapala Fish Scale. I use a Comfort Strapp on this bass and it works wonders! I also use a 4” Levy’s strap I bought when I visited Bass San Diego back in 2016.
My shoulder doesn’t hurt at all with these. Having practices with this bass for 3 hours at a time led to a really sore shoulder after using a 2” strap. Needed lots of A535 that night!

Fretboard material is Indian rosewood, body material is Mahogany, and the neck which is also polyester coated along the back and headstock is the standard 5 piece neck with hornbeam (native to England) center (no longer available and was replaced with Canadian Rock Maple). This is the classic Wal recipe! Facings are American Walnut...but just like the neck, it’s all coated in polyester black!
String spacing is 17mm and nut width is 46mm or 1” and 3/4”.

Why am I selling? To keep my bass experience going unfortunately big sacrifices must be made. I need money to “support my habit”.

Asking price is $7500USD with shipping included within Canada or to the Lower 48 United States. I will ship overseas at a premium (likely an additional $250USD).

Ships in a Hiscox Wal Case with red interior. The latest ones are grey.

I actually got to try this bass and it is INCREDIBLE. If I could pull it off I would buy it. It is as good a bass as I ever laid my hands on and coming from a great seller. GLWTS.
