Walkabout Scout or Ampeg BA115HPT Combo....Which would you choose?

I am trying to figure out which of these amps is loud enough and sounds better. I have no place locally i can try these out unless i special order them. Funny you would think in Seattle these would be easier to find. Any suggestions?

I have a loud drummer and a couple of not so loud guitar players with fender combos. I play Indie music. My concern is more at practice than shows based on how loud my drummer can be. Sick of lugging around my 2 cabs as well and want to downsize to a powerful enough combo. Last band was alot louder hence the big setup (current setup 1-"15 Workingman's combo and a 4 "10 cab=300Watts)

Any suggestions would be most helpful.

No contest--the Walkabout. Very loud, great sound. The 12" model weighs 50 lbs. Extension cabs weigh 37 lbs. The head weighs 13 lbs. You can take the head out and use it to drive other cabinets.

Best amp I've ever owned.

Between the 2 I'd choose the Mesa BUT, that's really not a light combo at all. For about 1200. you could have a used LM11 and a Schroeder 1212 or 15L. That'd be my preference. It'd give you more power at less weight with great tone as well IME/IMO.

Wow sounds like I need to hit the Walkabout then!
So I just want to make sure a "12 is loud enough for me. I guess worse scenario I could get the extension cab later although i have my 4 "10 which i could hook up to it worse case. Does anyone have experience with the Walkabout "15 as opposed to the "12? Is the "15 louder?

In particular, I'd go with the 4ohm Walkabout and not the 8ohm. That way you get the full 300w with the combo by itself, then if you add an 8ohm extension, you'll be at 2.67ohms (and a bit more than 300w) which is no problem for the WA. You can even go with a 4ohm extension and be at 2ohms total and in the neighborhood of 500w.

You could easily stack the 12 combo on top of your 4x10 for a very powerful combination. Results will vary depending on the ohms of your 4x10.

As to the 15 vs 12 question, it seems as if most guys here who use the Walkabout have the 12" version. I think I have read a few comments from those with the 15, and while it's the same great amp, I think that the 15 got some flack for being a bit awkwardly large, and possibly somewhat muddy. Whereas the 12 is generally highly praised for great lows and still very articulate and punchy. I don't think you would hear the 15 as louder than the 12.

Personally, I combine my Walkabout 12 with a Mesa Scout 15 as an extension and have been very very happy with the results.
