Double Bass Walter woods 100 watt distortion?

I was curious if anyone has experienced this problem .

My Walter woods amp has been sounding great. I got it about a year ago. Just recently it has had an odd distortion problem. I have narrowed the problem down to the amp. I tied different cabs basses. No luck. When low notes are played threw it, this crackling distortion sound happens. It is quite obnoxious. I thought it sounded like overdrive but I have the master all the way up. I have also played with the same settings in the past.

Walter told me to clean the pots so I am going to do that once I can find some proper deoxit.

On the older MI series the pots will cause that to happen, but it can also happen when the input jacks somehow got corroded. You should hear noise when you turn the pots up and down
quickly. Cleaning both the pots and jacks normally fixes the problem.

I think that's why I got the two channel version. I'm assuming that yours is a single channel. if it's not try the other channel. When you fill out your gear information in the user profile we know that kind of stuff

Walter told me to use a Hosa product called BigBath to spray down the pots. It worked great.

Just out of curiosity, what speakers are you powering with the Woods, and were you using that setup prior to the onset of distortion?

I ask because I once plugged an early Woods amp (80W at 8 Ohms) into an Ampeg Portabass 112 (200W at 4 Ohms) and got terrible distortion, which I attributed to insufficient power.

Both jakes make the same noise.

radio shack has the deoxit gold and it comes with this other can that does not have a label of the formula. I'm sure it works but I was skeptical. That is the only place I could find it in town and I was hoping I would not have to order it.

As to the De Oxit, that's what I've used on mine. I don't think it will damage anything.

Just a note that a bad cable can mimic the same effect, and is easier to test.
