Double Bass Walter Woods? Or not...

RW,
The schematic for the MI-100-8 you have is readily available in the talk bass threads and various websites. It dose not include a internal diagram of
Walter’s SMPS on the schematic it just says “power supply” or something like that. The only amp that Walter mentioned he could not repair was the original
MI-225-8 that had two separate 100 watt analog power amps ganged to a single SMPS power supply.

At one point someone posted a newer, clearer schematic for the MI-100. I have it in my archive. A friend gave me a fried MI-100 and another friend of mine just repaired it with that schematic. It sounds great!

@brianrost I also have noticed this with the Electroacoustic amp I have. The pre/post out is very strange. I'm usually using it with a Red Eye pre and using it for a di before the amp.

@Bruce Calin I currently have a MI-100 one channel, an MI-100 two channel, and an Electroacoustic amber light. I briefly owned a Sweeper and borrowed an MI-225 for a few days. I think my former cab didn't pair so well with these amps (Schroeder 8), but now I have a MAS 18 and the WW amps sound great through it.

Of all these amps my favorites so far are the MI-100 2 channel and the Electroacoustic.

I quit using my MI100-8 after about 25 years because I couldn't clean the pots enough to get rid of serious noise and was afraid it would give out because of age. I recently had a professional cleaning and checkout done, no real repairs, and it sounds like it did back in the day. I'm going to use it for everything I ever used it for but bring a small spare just in case. There still is no amp like it for me.

Still gigging my M-100-8 2 channel...best amp ever!

Just updated the website with these cool new amps. Played uprights, NS EUBs, Bass Guitars, and an Eminence through both the tube and solid state models. Really impressed!

Thanks Mark !!!
@FUCHSAUDIO
An idea for you if you are interested... The Red Eye Preamp has become very successful amongst bassists (after being released years ago) due to the maker sending out a demo that was passed from player to player on Talkbass. Perhaps you might want to send out a demo unit to one of us that owns or is very familiar with the Woods sound to get some traction going for these amps. You are in a unique position with the demise of Euphonic Audio and Acoustic Image to capture some real success with this product. The cost of the amp might be prohibitive to some without getting to try it.

Just to add to Dylan's post. As a group we've successfully demoed a Headway EDB-2, a Xlson "Chuck Israel's Microphone, the Red Eye Twin, and the Ischell contact microphone to name a few things. To
the best of my knowledge they were all returned to the manufacturer or someone bought one.

I like the idea of a loaner being passed around, but Fuchs should focus on sales first.
Golihur has a generous return policy, for those who might actually pop for a $1000-$1500 amp.

I think they already have a loaner in circulation for Woods owners who send in their amps for service.

Walter’s last price for a dual channel Electroacoustic Ultra was getting pretty close to the three grand mark.
The Fuchs is a much simpler amplifier. For many of us a dual channel amplifier is essential. A comparable amp from
Acoustic Image with dual channels would have costs @ $1,600.00. GR Bass Dual is $1,600.00 for a 1,400 watt two channel amp.
Just by way of comparison. Just my take however.

Rick, you are correct in that many of us want/need a 2 channel amp as oth doublers and/or want to use a mic and a piezo pickup.

I spoke with Gollihur Music when they first arrived at their shop. I am sure they sound very much like one of Walter's amps, but there is no variable HPF (Yes I know they have one built on, but at their selected frequency....not all rooms are the same!!), second channel, 2 mid bands, notch filter, phantom power etc. All the things we have grown accustomed to in the AI products that have become a part of how we do what we do.
And what in the blazes is going on with a 1/4" speaker out? Why wouldn't you use a Speakon out? What advantage would there be to use a connection point that no modern bass amplifier uses any more? If there is one, I am unaware of it....wouldn't be the first time.

I am not trying to be a negative Nancy, but those aren't things I am willing to compromise on. Imma pass on this one. I am SURE it is a great amp and incredibly well made, but I would have to put a Headway in front of a new amp? I could do that for any of my Trickfish gear, but WHY?

If they were interested in coming out with an amp that had the aforementioned features, they would 100% get my business. They have a shot to reach out to the people that used AI to begin with. Just my .02 cents/carrots.
