Warmoth P neck question

So I was in a GC and there was this beautiful fender p w/ an all rosewood neck. It felt amazing! (the shape, not the wood - which was nice, but not my thing)

It just felt slightly beefier. At 1st I thought it might have been a longer scale, but I put it up to a MIA P and it was the same.

Is this a common thing to all Warmoth P necks? could this have been thicker because it was all rosewood? I'm thinking of building a P and I want to make sure I get what ever this neck was . . .

Warmoth necks tend to be a little beefier and heavier because of the steel reinforcement rods.

Warmoth only offers one size for Fender style necks, but they have two different nut widths available.

If you were playing on a Warmoth neck, that is the size you will get.
What was the nut width on the bass though?

They do offer the "fatback" shape for eight string bass necks. Curiously, their guitar necks, while they offer thinner profiles, also offer "fatback" and "boatneck" profiles. I'd like to see them offer both for basses since I prefer a deeper profile.

I have an odd "fishtail" headstock p-bass width Warmoth neck I found on ebay that I am very happy with. I'm not sure how deep the profile is, but it is thicker than my MIM P neck.

the nut width was definitely P (I'm assuming the other is close to a J) I just wasn't sure the wood type effected the shape in any way

I guess it is just their normal P. It was awesome! I def think I'm going warmoth for my next bass. . . been dying to do one!

Now if I can only decide on a bridge

They don't offer the fatback shape per se. That is the only contour available for the 8 string necks, so it isn't really a choice.
Only one contour is available for each type of bass neck.

The guitar necks on the other hand are available in 8 contours. (3 regular and 5 extra cost.)

For Warmoth that equals (3 regular and 5 extra profit). Once they create the CNC program to do the profile, their cost is the same as the "regular" profiles. You could likely negotiate away most or all of the extra cost if you were willing to haggle with them.

Warmoth is a business, not a mom and pop store. There is no haggling with them. Just like any other business (especially being as your buying directly from the company and not a dealer) you have to pay what they charge.
They do discount certain showcase necks/bodies when no one has purchased them for X amount of time, but the cost of everything else is pretty much set in stone.

IIRC, the reason for the upcharge is that it makes it a bit more difficult to keep up with the production when you have to put in different CNC programs.
They try to keep most feautures standardized so that they can quickly build a bunch of necks. When you order a custom feature, they have to change the CNC program which slows down production.
