Warmoth Pbass Pickguards?

Do the standard ones fit right onto a Fender MiM pbass without modification? I was always under the impression that they do, but when I went to order one last night a little thingy came up that said "fits most blahblahblah". I'm running out the door right now but I figure there has got to be a few people who swapped out their pg that can answer my question :hiding:

thanks in advance, love talkbass a tonnnn :bassist:

I changed my pickguard, not with a Warmoth, though.

Warmoth bodies have no pre-drilled pickguard holes that the pickguard needs to match, and they can make more money if they sell pickguards not just for custom basses, but also as replacements.

I don't see why they would use a different pattern than Fender...it should fit fine.

I just received my black/red/black pickguard from Warmoth today. It'll be going on my '03 black MIM Precision tonight. I'll post when I have an answer...

My main reason for getting it is that my Ric 4001 is also black and white, and I'm have a tough time telling the two apart. And, of course, it improves my tone. :D

warmoth p guards don't (or at least didn't used to) match any fender guard.

WRONG. It depends on which you order. there are 11 hole P pickguards, and 13 hole P pickguards. I have gotten 2 13 hole pickguards that dropped PERFECTLY onto my MIM P special. And the first of those dropped right onto a Hot Rod P my friend Paul has. This over the course of 5years' time.

I only require the 13-hole variety (+/- '62 additional holes) and due to the wide array of hole patterns out there (virtually all of which say will fit Fender), I have pretty much resigned myself to buying the OEM Fender ones, which leaves very few options regarding pattern & color.

Don't leave us hangin', Bro'...

Whoa! I hate to leave a bruthuh hangin', but I was up most of the night fighting Charles Darwin's theory of "Survival of the Fittest". I had to get some sleep in before doing surgery on my beloved Grand Theft Precision. I'm up from my nap, and the procedure is now complete.

he's busy kicking things after he found out it does not quite line up. warmoth p guards don't (or at least didn't used to) match any fender guard.

Man, tough crowd, tough crowd!! Sorry Rubato, but you're wrong-o in this case. The pickguard replacement on my '03 MIM P-bass went as smoothly as a cricothyrotomy in the parking lot of a bowling alley!

There was a bright pink sticker on the protective film that said:

"IMPORTANT!
Please ensure acceptability and fit prior to removing this protective film.
Removing the film renders the pickguard unreturnable."

It seems that all thirteen holes and the pup lined up perfectly...and I got pictures to prove it!! The first is the "before" shot.

Ok, a few points here:

1 - Thanks for the response and pix. BEAUTIFUL bass and NICE stack too!

2 - I have a chrome red MIM P that I think the blk/red/blk theme might go well with

3 - WTH is a 'Grand Theft Precision'???

3 - WTH is a 'Grand Theft Precision'???

Grand Theft Precision a model Fender only made for a very limited time and is worth about $12,000 today.

Not really... :hiding:
It's the name I've given this bass as a full-fledged bass-geek. :D
Here's the thread that explains it:

Fantastic news, the knowledge that a new pg should indeed fit has got me excited to mod my MiM again, thanks Engine! And thanks to all who responded!

((beautiful bass by the way, the b/r/b pickguard is definitely a nice touch))
