Warmoth Versus All Parts???

I have a Warmoth jazz fretless (warmoth neck and body) Warmoth makes great bodies. You can get 1 pc. ash or alder. There necks are also good...but they are heavier than traditional Fender necks (steel bars) and the profile is a little chunkier, but you can have any finish you want. The Allparts necks I have played are good...more of a traditional profile with a lacquer finish. Also Check Ebay I've seen used original and reissue 70's Fender necks.

I have finished three all Warmoth parts basses, a neo retro '50's P, a Sonic Blue J, and a koa topped J, and have two others in process now. I really can't say enough about fit and finish, it is top drawer. They do make a twenty fret neck, but I like the look of the little hang over of the 21 fret version.

Does anyone know of a vendor who sells Fender jazz bodies in 1970's p/u configuration? There's a vendor on Ebay, but I'm unsure of the quality.

I picked up a used Geddy Lee jazz and pulled the neck off. Some people love the thin Geddy Lee neck, so I didn't have any trouble selling it. Depending on what you pay for a used Geddy Lee bass this might be less expensive since the vendor I've seen on eBay just selling the bodies are pretty expensive.

Back to the topic...I used a Warmoth neck on my Geddy Lee body for a little over a year and thought it was a nice neck. I did not like the thicker profile of the Warmoth neck over most other jazz necks. The frets weren't perfect either and I could feel the fret edges when I slid my left hand around the neck. I also noticed that the Warmoth neck is quite a bit heavier than my MIA Fender Jazz neck.

I think I have decided to give Allparts a try since it will be closer to an original 70's neck. I'm leaning towards the blocked and binded neck but the nuts are hard to come by.

Those of you that are using an Allparts blocked and binded neck...Where did you find a nut to fit?

Sorry that confusing you, I am looking for fretless neck for 60's vibe and find a Fender headstock sharp neck from Musikraft....Invalid Link Removed..... Anybody have experience????? I think you should check this too.

I shaped a bone nut with my dremel to fit. I don't think you will find one to drop in.

Hi I once purchased a Musikraft neck off of Ebay. I didn't really like it the neck profile. It wasn't a "C" profile... I much prefer the Warmoth or Allparts necks.

Well, since you know way more than I, what is 70's pickup spacing, and how is the sound different?

The 70's spacing but the bridge pickup a tad closer to the bridge then standard 60's spacing. Fender only did this for a number of years before going back to the standard 60's spacing. I found the 70's spacing gives you a bit more punchy mids. Here is a great example of the two side by side, my two Sadowsky basses. The bass on the left has the pickups in the standard 60's position. The bass on the right, my fretless has the pickups in the 70's position. You can see the difference in the photo.

I use Warmoth, Allparts, and Fender RI necks, Warmoth and Guitar Mill bodies.

My current #1 has an Allparts neck on a slab single coil P bass body from Guitar Mill.

I like Warmoth necks but they're too heavy for the ultralight bodies I now use (3.25 lbs and under) and the instrument neck dives on the strap.

I was looking at USA Custom Guitars, but they don't have the license for the Fender headstock shape. :(
?

Get a paddle head, or get an oversized uncut but drilled headstock neck from them, cut the profile yourself to your desired shape. Even without powered cutting tools, a coping saw, a rasp, some sanding paper and some elbow grease is all you need.

After careful consideration, I'm going with a 60ish looking olympic white with maple on maple, no block inlays. Finding a jazz body with 70's spacing is short of impossible, unless I want it in black.

I was recomended a company called dguitar parts. They have insane deals on Allparts. Basically, I can get the neck and body for $458.00 + shipping.

I'm gonna roll with an audhere preamp, and nordstrand nj4se p/u set.

Two questions:

1. I want to get one of those obnoxious bridge covers with the big F. How do you change your strings with that on? Is unscrewing it the only option?

2. Is bridge size limited with that bridge cover in place? For instance I was going to opt for the Hipshot vintage bridge but wonder if it will fit.

Hey, does anyone have a maple fretboard and pearloid inlays Allparts neck? I recently saw a bass on TB with that neck and the inlays looked very white and kinda "off" from what you see on the re-issue fenders (both the MIJ and MIA). Anyone that has pics of it in real life please post!
