hi im a $$ 5 strings owner.

Can you tell me about 5 string touch? i just cant get to feel it right.

And about the functionality of the last knob (the farest from the push pull) on pasive mode?

what you do to get more high mids? from my viewpoint is a bass with too much dark tone. Currently im using it for metal(speed/thrash), ad i cant feel its tone. if the guitars are distorted the d.r.i way. i feel an emptyness of mids. if they turn up the bass on the amp. The guitars sound too dark, that it melts with the bass and im not listen anything.

I like, the meshuggah combustion bass tone. i can get sort of that tone with this bass. But which "the warwick" for that tone?

How can i get this tone

1:14 min on a W ? (Yeah i know it is a spector)


From now im thinking of staying with the $$. I live in S. America. And is much money to get other basses. (I bought it at 800u$s, plus 350 U$s from shipping ). Now i cant stop from thinking about an old 35' Czech Spector Euro NT.


I would recommend to people to stay with used 90/95 models, that were the best times arround woods / and construction.

I've got a 4 string $$ Corvette.

The last knob (if I'm understanding you correctly) is the BASS cut/boost & therefore in 'PASSIVE' mode this-like the treble control next to it- will not DO ANYTHING in PASSIVE mode-as the EQ is bypassed.

BUT the toggle switches & pup blend control still function in passive mode & U can get a HECK of a lotta tones outta these simply by using these.

I get a darn good 'passive Precision' sound- with the $$ in passive mode, front toggle switch down(series mode I think), rear toggle in mid pos., Pup blend 3/4 of the way favoring the neck pup.

Seriously- with the coil tapping options & the pup blend control- the $$ can do damn near it all.... the U can switch IN the ACTIVE EQ.......

I find the neck to be Precision like. Chunky, but in a comfortable way. I certainly don't find it UNcomfotable at all, & I've got pretty small hands!

Yes currently im using it on passive mode. The firsts days on active, it blowed my mind. And thought to here (8 months), still to not use it on active, to get more confident with the passive sound. Sorta kind that the farest knob (on active bass booster i think), is trebble? i cant appreciate it very well but i notice some changes on trebble tone definition.

Volume/push. Pickup Balance. Treble tone control. Bass tone control.

On passive mode pulled off. Treble tone control really affects the sound. It is an standard tone control?

Think, will wait until my 2nd bass gets fixed. To sent it to my luthier.

Will try to record with the sound card. some tones. It isnt even on active mode cause has no battery installed. I recall that it consumed batteries too quickly. And have to rewire the jacks to make ground not discharging continually.

WOW.... I dunno NOW!!!!

I thought that when the Vol knob was lifted- therefore in PASSIVE mode- the EQ was bypassed, as it's an ACTIVE EQ.

The pup blend & toggle switches all still work, but the Treble & bass are ACTIVE..... this - all AS FAR AS I KNOW! NOW you've got me wondering??????? :-)
thats GOOD- means I'll have to go & try this bass out again tonite.

The VOLUME knob pressed DOWN puts the $$ into ACTIVE mode IIRC.
Again.... now I'm doubting myself. Will get back to you!

I think the wiring could be wrong. I really dont know, i bought it that way.

Will record something when get on home.

Really dont know very well the dual/sigle/parallel switches too.

until days ago, i really doesnt knew that the 2nd knob was a blend, i just tought it was, a tone booster too. Normally i like the N-S switches to be in the middle, yet dont know what it means).

I expect the audio quality is not so poor. That was a laptop webcam.
And the audio is coming through a fast track pro, but is encoded on wmv, captured with movie maker.

+1000 idiocy point. All this time i was playing, without knowing what the 2nd knob was a ****ing mic blend. And using it, for ex. blending all on the bridge mic, and playing over the other mic, thinking what a crap sound. Yes trebble, bass pots, arent used. Just were my subjectivity. The mic switches changes a lot the sound.
Now i can get a rick sound, be blending to bridge, putting the 2nd switch all the way down.

Yes im usign too much pressure on the video, just to focus on what mic i was playing.

I have to get used to the sound. Is too harshy for the warmer jazz bass that i where before.

+1 yea man soloing that neck pickup (or as you say favoring it by 3/4) gives you such a sweet precision-like tone while retaining the unique warwick tone as well. love that about my $$. it's something that a lot of the other basses in its class can't do as well because of the pickup placement. on basses where the pickups are spread out more, soloing the neck doesn't seem to work out very often since you lose so much definition. but the neck pickup on the $$ is every bit as punchy and articulate as the bridge one, it's simply a difference in tone. in fact, most of the time when i solo a pickup, it's the neck on this bass. but in my opinion the best thing to do is put both pickups full on and play right in that little space between them.
