warwick corvette players - play over neck or bridge pickup?

i got a used warwick corvette about 3 weeks ago during my recent bass aquisitions (hehe).

It's a '03 passive 4 string corvette.

I have done a setup on it, low action, raised the pickups ..

when I play over the bridge pickup there just isn't quite as much volume and punch as when playing over the neck pickup.

Granted the bridge pickup is quite closer to the actual bridge saddles themself than i'm used too .. it isn't quite in the "sweet spot" but more on the bridge side of it ..

Is this something everyone has noticed with a corvette? It seems to kind of limit the tone options if I have to play over the neck pickup.

You know, i've actually noticed the same thing, the "sweet spot" for me seems to be between the neck pickup and the neck, or at least for the sound i like. my action is set up like yours (lower action if i actually find the time and money to actually to get my truss rod fixed up).

I keep the pickups even, and boost the lows a little higher than the highs on the EQ.
'05 corvette active 5 standard.

I have actually considered putting some barts or something in it because i really just can't get what i want out of the bridge pickup, it just seems lacking.

I play an active corvette std 5 fretless with TI flats through an EA stack plucking between the neck and the neck pu with the knobs set maybe 30 to 45 degrees toned toward the neck pu and toward the lows eq

'05 Corvette Standard 5-stringer active (mostly played passive) that I play smack in between the two pickups with a slight favoring of the neck. Great sound for me - full, but not too shiny.

I play between the 2 pickup too on my active warwick. It is jazz pickup but it don't play or sound like jazz in my case since i have EMG on my. Sounds too thin to me when play over the bridge pickup, just not enough clarity to me. my sweet spot is play between the 2 pickup.

I own an '07 fretless passive 'vette with stock MEC jazzes. I run the strings about 5/32 in. off the deck and the pickups just a hair farther out.

I Love the tone I get off my bridge pickup. Pluck harder, or use a pick. also, boost your upper mids, or your lower mids, depending on what kind of tone you like. You can get some really nice tones from that pick up with your upper mids boosted around 800 with some drive.

as for replacement tuning machines, you can either get them from warwicks site ($60 shipping through fed ex though ::thumbs down:: ) or, you could buy any other brand of tuner that is the same size. hipshots or all parts would probably be the easiest to find. as far as ACTUAL warwick heads with shipping originating in the states, (therefor cheaper shipping) I have no idea.

for tone comparision, I also own a pre 2000 fretted corvette active 5 string, an '01 active thumb 5, and a '00 streamer standard. and run all of them through my rh450.

there's more string movement further from the bridge, and a boomier sound so this is no surprise. lower the neck pickup and/or adjust EQ to compensate.
