Besides body shape and aesthetics, are the Corvette 5 and Streamer 5 the same bass? Like pickup placement and electronics?

Some days I get really stuck on P Nuts tone on those earlier 311 albums (Transistor and Soundsystem) and I know he’s used the same Streamer 5 on those and everything prior. THAT tone is just the bees knees. Never heard a Corvette sound that way.

But then I’ve heard nearly identical tone from Thumb 5s too. Like Kade Turner playing that Phil Collins tune. Just unreal tone.

Well the PNut signature Warwick he had was a streamer with a Musicman humbucker in the bridge and a slanted J pickup in the neck, so if he used that for recordings your talking about it wouldn't sound the same either way. Also, they do come in JJ or soapbar configurations, but most of the Streamers ive seen are PJ, so even if it was pre-signature bass that he recorded (and used a Warwick) and it was a streamer it was probbably a PJ model.

Nah this was well before his “sig” model. He’s used the same 5 string JJ Streamer to record at least the first 5 albums.

The Corvette has the MEC 2 band preamp and the Streamer has a 3 band. The 3 band sounds immensely better in my opinion. Night and day. This is also the case with Thumb basses, the neck through sound glorious with the 3 band and then there is the 2 band bolt on…

Old thread but the streamer pickups are a little closer together and closer to the bridge vs the corvette. Definitely sound different.
