warwick fna jazz with mm turned passive?

I'm looking at getting a gorgeous 98 fna jazz with a mm pickup. The bass is in great shape, wenge neck and all, for $600 from the 'center. The catch? There is only 1 pot wired for volume. No preamp, and 3 or 4 holes in the front from missing pots. It's wired straight volume to the jack and it sounds good, but i'm wondering, should I slap a pre in it and go about my business or keep it passive? Then the next question, I have a streamer pro-m 4 with dual J and same neck that I will play too (I use 2 tunings for shows) should/could I do the same with the dual J and expect similar results? I want, ultimately, the two to sound as close to the same as each other.
