Warwick Help

Hey there fellow low end collegues
I need some help at chossing a bass,I play mostly from hard rock to thrash
I found 2 basses used
1-Warwick PS Corvette Active 5 Bubinga korean made-450euro
2-Warwick Corvette STD(90s) Passive 4 with wenge neck+fingerbord and ash body(it has just a nut I)-450euro
Wich of these would be a better choice for the genre I specified

I would choose the 90's era Vette with the Wenge neck. I have owned 3 German Warwicks, the one I kept is a 93 Fortress with the Wenge neck. At the same price point, it is no contest. Go for it!

But as far as features isnt the Bubinga with the Active PU better that the Ash Passive

To me, the important features are where it was made and the Wenge neck. String it BEAD, add a preamp and Rock the $@&" out of it.

in my experience warwick's passive pickups are kinda noisy. if you go with the 4, you might want to consider replacement pickups. don't let the pro series throw you off because it was made in korea, you won't notice a quality difference.

either way, you will probably want to consider replacing the nut with a just a nut 3 brass, the plastic ones seem kinda flimsy.

90s Warwick is German and better quality. Wenge neck is killer, plus brass nut makes it a no brained really. You can upgrade the electronics, you can't upgrade the woods

I play a 94 Fortress One 5-string with 4-pc Wenge neck and ash body. MEC original pups with tapered rounds. It was made for metal my man. Absolutely will kill. Be sure to wear ear plugs! (as JimmyM will tell you!) Play it through 4x12 or 8x10.

BTW I put on the JAN III several years ago but have put the JAN I which is brass back on. I think it sounds a tad better. And it looks good too!

My Fortress also has the JAN I, brass nut. I pulled the passive MEC's and replaced them with EMG GZR's (also passive) that into a SansAmp VTDI. Found the sound inside my head!

Mine is both active and passive. It's active but when the volume dial is pulled out it goes to passive. I use the passive setting about half of the time. It just turns OFF the tone controls for both pups. You sill can pan from one to the other and you can still mess with the volume. The passive you are looking at may be similar. The Warwick website has all the diagrams for all the electronics on all models. Plus a lot of data (size-weight-string placements-etc). Plus if you ask a question nicely you should get an excellent answer fairly quickly. I always do. Good people. A fellow bassist in Boca Raton pulls out the MEC pups every six months and puts in Barts. He loves them for a while, then misses the MECs. Been doing that for about 10 years.

Gotta say I got a '12 German Corvette Std 4 and I love the hell out of it!!!! I've doodled around on a 90's Vette fretless 4 and really liked that as well. As much as I would love the versatility of a 5, I'd probably rather go w/ a German 4 over a Korean 5 IMHO....... Whatever you decide I wish you good luck but, with a Warwick, you won't really need it... They're the balls!!!!!!

I own an 06 vette standard active, the bass player for another band in the same cover scene uses a newer Korean vette active...we've swapped here and there when we are booked at the same venues or just getting beers since we both have good backups if we don't like them. Both are 4 strings btw

I honestly have a hard time telling them apart other than the finish on the body and his has a very slight buzz probably from him swapping pickups back to stock MEC from barts. Mine is stock save a refret job with nickel frets. I can vouch for the quality of the Korean models for sure but I think in the long run, the German made holds its value better and has the benefit of being the "real deal" warwick. Either is a wonderful instrument though. My vote leans toward the German though.

I do really like the bubinga tone,and most people say that bubinga its better that ash in term of tone(but not weight) and others prefer ash,I just cant find that combo(ash+wenge)on youtube so I can make an ideea how it sounds like but on the other hand I would prefer the Ash because its Made in Germany and its lighter(even though i dont find heavier being a problem)
So hard to make a choice since I find tons of cover with the bubinga and it sounds amazing like this

But what are the differences of the Ash/Wenge and Bubinga/Ovanngkol(as far on the net and forums i saw that for metal most people prefer bubinga over wenge)
