Warwick pickups

i'm looking for a new pickup/preamp setup for my warwick std. corvette i want a pretty deep smooth tone because the passive mec's it has now suck pretty hard and are too bright. any advice would be helpful. peace.

Bartolinis can sound good with warwick

I second Bartolini's with Warwick, although they may not be exactly what you're looking for, it is a cool combo.

Nordstrand NJ4's have a nice fat, growly sound. I havn't heard barts in a warwick, but you can never go wrong with them. If you could, get an Audere preamp with the Z-Mode and put it into low-z. That will get rid of your "too bright" problems.

i have the active/passive mac's in my proline. i love em, never use the passive tho some people live that too.

Are you sure its the pickups? The preamps have much more symptoms of sucking than the pickups. And I find it hard to believe that the pickups alone are causing your sound to be bright, especially in a bass with a wood combo like a warwick, which tends to favor the darker, growly, punchy tone (unless you have one of the all maple models). Are you boosting your treble on your bass or your amp? Are there 'bright' switches on your amp that you have turned on?

I have played dozens of Warwicks and I find the pickups to be one of the best things about them. My suggestion is if you really NEED to drop some cash into it, try a new preamp, and make sure it has an active/passive switch. THEN if you still find the sound to bright (I still cant see how you do now) then look into some new Pups.

I have a aguilar OBP3 and bassline in my corvette st. The combination sounds pretty damn good and theres a whole lot of growl.

I've always thought that the MECs were very nice pickups. Have you tried some mellower sounding strings?

Roll off the tone knob, or try some warmer strings.

every bass I heard with JJ's is sweet. I have a custom bass made to look a bit like Warwick with passive J Barts and active Bart EQ, love it.

I am having a fretless made the same with same setup too.

I've never minded the mec's in my streamer, after having some barts in it i went back cause i just liked the tone i was getting out of them.

But mines not a corvette so its a diff story.
